  • Sector XLV , which ranks #3 for Relative Strength (Altra Sector score of 71.0 with bullish regime.)

The US market opened the week with a healthy texture, as indicated by the Altra Market Score of 71.3, signifying a Bullish regime. Broad market participation was evident, with over 68% of stocks trading above their key Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) across various timeframes, and advances significantly outpacing declines at 358 to 145. This environment often signals that momentum-driven opportunities are viable.

Within this context, several individual equities registered notable shifts in their momentum profiles. The Altra Score provides a 0-100 momentum rating for each stock, where a higher score signifies stronger bullish momentum. This score is calculated by assessing the alignment of EMAs and the trend of the Relative Strength Index (RSI) across daily, weekly, and monthly timeframes. Complementing this, the Altra Market score reflects overall market momentum by measuring the percentage of stocks above key EMAs, offering a snapshot of market breadth. Lastly, the Altra Sector score applies similar analysis at the sector level, including a relative strength rank to compare its momentum against other sectors.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX)

Vertex Pharmaceuticals saw a significant momentum shift, with its Altra Score jumping from 38.3 (Bearish) to 69.0 (Bullish) as of August 4, 2026. This move aligns with a robust Health Care sector, which carries an Altra Sector Score of 71.0 and ranks 3rd overall, identified as a 'Confirmed leader, accelerating' with a relative strength RSI of 55.0. From a technical perspective, VRTX's price is trading above its key EMAs, and it registered a bullish Weekly EMA Crossover on June 22, 2026. Crucially, its momentum is top_down_aligned, meaning bullish trends are synchronized across daily, weekly, and monthly timeframes, reinforcing the strength of this move. While the daily RSI is near 49.73, the weekly and monthly RSIs (55.14 and 53.37 respectively) suggest underlying stability and potential for continued upward movement.

Cincinnati Financial (CINF)

Cincinnati Financial also demonstrated a powerful surge in momentum, moving from an Altra Score of 56.5 (Neutral) to 83.8 (Strong Bullish) on August 4, 2026. This places CINF within the Financials sector, which holds a strong Altra Sector Score of 74.0 and ranks 2nd, though its regime is described as 'Not yet confirmed, gaining relative strength' (RS RSI 57.8). CINF's price is positioned above its key EMAs, and its Weekly EMA Crossover occurred much earlier, on May 2, 2025, suggesting a more established bullish trend. Its RSI readings across daily, weekly, and monthly timeframes (51.06/57.36/66.04) all indicate healthy positive momentum. However, unlike VRTX, CINF is not top_down_aligned, implying that while overall momentum is strong, there might be varying degrees of bullishness across its different timeframes.

Goldman Sachs (GS)

Goldman Sachs rounds out the trio with an even more substantial momentum shift, vaulting from 57.1 (Neutral) to a highly significant 89.0 (Strong Bullish) on August 4, 2026. Like Cincinnati Financial, GS belongs to the Financials sector, benefiting from its high Altra Sector Score of 74.0 and 2nd rank among sectors, even as the sector continues to gain relative strength rather than being fully 'confirmed' as a leader. Technical indicators for Goldman Sachs are notably strong, with price trading above key EMAs and very robust RSI readings across all timeframes (50.82/62.01/79.59), particularly on the monthly chart, pointing to substantial underlying buying interest. Similar to CINF, GS also lacks top_down_aligned momentum, suggesting that while its current score is exceptionally high, the multi-timeframe synchronization isn't as complete as seen in VRTX.

What is the Altra Score? The Altra Score is AltraOne's proprietary momentum score for individual stocks, ranging from 0 to 100. It measures EMA structure and RSI momentum across multiple timeframes. A score above 60 is Bullish, below 40 is Bearish, and 40–60 is Neutral. The score is updated every trading day after market close based on end-of-day data.
